Creating a revision

A practical guide for architecture studio workflows in Beech.

When a client changes an approved sheet, create a -R1 row instead of editing the original — the first drawing stays in the record.

Intent: Explain creating a revision in a way that a new team member can follow without prior Beech context.

Who this helps: Architecture studio admins, managers, and contributors who need a repeatable operational workflow.

When you need a new numbered sheet — for example after client feedback — create a revision rather than quietly overwriting the original. The original number stays the historical sheet and the new work has its own lifecycle.

How to do it

Open the drawing task and choose Create revision. Beech adds a new row with the same title, a -R1 (then -R2) suffix, linked to the original, and opens that new task. The original is preserved. The Drawing revisions card shows the parent and sibling revisions.

What happens next

The revision goes through assign, review, and approve again — same as a new drawing. Use it when the client or a consultant asks for changes after sign-off, or whenever you need a new numbered sheet. Admins and Managers can create a revision at any status.

Create revision is available on the drawing task panel at any status. Earlier WIP edits while an internal review cycle is open still use Resubmit for review on the same row — not a new Rn.

  • Mistake 2: Treating chat updates as source of truth instead of recording the update in Beech.
