Roles & Permissions

Beech has three permission tiers. Every user has a firm-wide tier and optionally a project-specific role. The tier controls what you can see and do across the entire product.
The three tiers

Job titles vs permission tiers
The permission tier (Admin, Manager, Contributor) controls what someone can do. The job title is a display label — "Principal," "Senior Architect," "Landscape Architect," anything your firm uses. These are separate. A firm that calls its team managers "Project Leads" sets their title to "Project Lead" and their tier to Manager. The title appears on task cards, reports, and team views. The tier controls access.
Project-scoped roles
The same person can have a different effective role on different projects. A Senior Architect who manages Project A can be a Contributor on Project B. Project membership is managed from the project's Info tab → Project actions. Only Admins see all firm projects regardless of membership. Managers and Contributors see only projects they have been added to.
What Contributors can and cannot do
- Can: create projects, create drawings and general tasks on projects they belong to, assign work to any project member (drawings, general tasks, subtasks, vendor requests, reviews), update their own task statuses, manage project Vault files and packages (same as Managers on those projects), log site visit notes, submit reviews when assigned as a reviewer, log time on their tasks, open Reports and download their own member and daily reports.
- Cannot: delete projects or tasks, manage the project team, manage the firm vendor catalog or firm Library, run sprints, access Firm settings, download the firm-wide project portfolio report.
Changing a role
Admins and Managers can change team members' tiers from Firm settings → Members. Managers can change Manager ↔ Contributor. Only Admins can grant or revoke Admin. Role changes take effect immediately. The person's current session is not interrupted but their next action will reflect the new permissions.
